ReCollection

“I recollect drawing athletes I admired, sunsets during holidays or copying paintings like Rembrandt's Nightwatch. Since my early childhood this has been my way of processing moments of connection, finding out what it was that made these impressions valuable to me.

Expressing myself mostly through photography, I feel more than ever that I’m stopping time; boxing these objects that are, or were once owned by museums, admired by collectors, stolen by countries, or painted by artists. The final layer of craquelé symbolizes time leaving its traces.

Recent 'acquisitions' are vases used in paintings by Vincent van Gogh, Georgio Morandi and Henri Matisse. There are ceramics and marbles collected by Franz von Siebold or Rodin. I want to see what they saw, feel what they felt. I get closer by translating these objects into my idiom, making them the same size and presenting them as a memory, as my ReCollection.”
